| About this site This site is about getting better on Shogi play. I see so many people, who started playing in Kurnik (Now PlayOK), just start playing without any knowledge of various openings or basic techniques for game closings. Knowledge of Chess helps, bud due to unique nature of Shogi, there are basic techniques that you should know. This will dramatically improve your chance of playing better games. So look around and learn how to play this fantastic board game in more enjoyable way. | About Us
I was born in Japan and raised in Japan. Shogi Bug bit me when I was a teenager. I played a lot when I was in high-school. Then I moved to the United Sates. Since then I did not play shogi for the longest time. Recently, I found Kurnik.net and started to play again. In the meantime, I learned that there are many Shogi sites (Mainly in Japanese, but some in English and other languages too.) In Kurnik, my rating is hovering around 1700, so I don't pretend to be a very strong player, but for most of you, I can show you how you can eventually beat me ^_^
My son does most of the maintenance of this site (he's still 13 years old). He was born and raised in America, so he knows a lot more english than me. He doesn't play Shogi, but instead, he likes to play video games. He once played as Turbo13z. You can search for him, but I guarantee that he won't be on. He likes to play MapleStory more these days. If you do too, his IGN is wurtware.
| | About Shogi Shogi is a Japanese variant of Chess. Both games originated from India. Shogi uses Flat wood pieces instead of more 3D look pieces of Western Chess. One interesting theory about why Western Chess acquired statue like shape, compared to other variant of chess (Chiniese, Korean etc.,) is that when Chess travelled through middle east on the back of Camels, those people used the animals dropping to play on the sand. Arithmetically speaking, it is said that possible moves in a given board situation is about 80. Assuming 115 moves as an average of one game, possible combination of moves for Shogi play is about 10^220. For chess, the number is about 10^120. But the gold crown goes to Go. The possible combinations is said to be 10^360. See Wikipedia for more information on Shogi
